Neil's Commitment

I just have to say I am amazed at Neil's commitment to his Robotics team. He was selected to be a part of the five member team that will go to the competition later this year. Michael was a part of this team two years ago and Neil was also on it last year. It is a serious obligation to be on this team. They have practice five days a week. Right now on the weekends their meetings are 6 hours long and as they get closer to the actual competition it will be bumped up even more.

What is Robotics? It's an opportunity to build robots out of legos. They have to design them, build them and then program them to do several little "missions". They do this all on their own with a few adult mentors. Our adult mentors are fantastic!! There are not enough words to describe these men and their commitment to the kids.

What really amazes me is that all these kids are 9, 10 and 11 years old and they understand what they have signed on for. They have to fill out an application with serious questions and they have a personal interview, its' a big deal. None of these kids complain about the long hours. Sure, they have kid moments where they need to mess around a bit but for the most part they are extremely focused. I don't know that I would do so well with the pressure of all that.

Here are a couple pics from last year's competition.
