I haven't posted a "real" blog entry in a little while. I have been crazy busy. My volunteering has stepped up and those of you who know me, know that's how I like it. The boys are enjoying summer and I'm still home hanging out with them plenty, but enjoying the things I'm doing.
I stepped up to be AFTB Volunteer Program Manager here. The change over and getting it where it fits me without causing too much disruption is taking up some time. I have also volunteered to step up and be the Family Readiness Group leader for our company. We are changing out Commanders soon and the incoming Commander is not married. It will be a few weeks before that happens but I'm preparing for some hard work ahead. (And no comments from the peanut gallery who remember me saying that I "would never do it again", you should know me better by now!)
As I mentioned in a previous entry, Kevin and I are volunteering at the USO and loving it. We are helping out this weekend when they do a motorcycle ride.
Those are the main areas I am volunteering with and then I have random little things, like Tell Me a Story events where I help facilitate a discussion after a story is read. I have helped out at a Health and Safety fun day where I talked to kids about Emergency Kits. This past Saturday I went and did Team Building exercises with some teens who's parents are in the Army Reserves. And yesterday I got to brief future commanders about Family Readiness Groups and had so much fun doing it.
I went 6 months without doing hardly any volunteering outside of AFTB and it nearly drove me mad. I need to be busy and I'm not ready to go to work. I still want to be here with my kids and volunteering allows me the flexibility to do that. Volunteering also allows me to network so that when I am ready to go back into the work force I will have good references and contacts.
This summer is busier but the boys and I are still having fun. Daniel and I will do Cub Scout Day Camp (I know, I know, I said I'd never do that again either!). The older boys and Kevin will do Boy Scout camp just a couple days after that. Then the boys and I are going on a little vacation and Kevin gets to go do some training.
Life is busy but good!
